NORTHEAST

  • Maquoketa Caves State Park
    Maquoketa Caves is Iowa's most unique state park, containing more natural caves and bluffs than any other state park in Iowa.
  • Backbone State Park
    Backbone State Park was Iowa's first state park and is named for its steep ridge of bedrock. Climbers and rappellers will find many challenging cliffs. 

SOUTHEAST

  • Honey Creek State Park 
    Honey Creek State Park features 828 acres of rolling, wooded hills against a background of Lake Rathbun, Iowa's largest lake.

NORTHWEST

  • Black Hawk State Park
    Angling is a popular sport at Black Hawk Lake. The site features sand volleyball courts and a frisbee golf course.

SOUTHWEST

  • Lewis and Clark State Park
    Lewis and Clark is a very popular area for family picnics with more than 30 acres of picnic grounds with tables and fire grills, all near Blue Lake.

CENTRAL

  • Elk Rock State Park
    Lake Red Rock's reservoir area serves as a habitat for more than 200 species of birds, 54 species of trees, 62 species of wildflowers, 43 species of fish, and 35 species of mammals.
